International Cooperation

The Commonwealth Intergovernmental Co-Operation Commissariat, or the CICC, is the collective name for all the Commonwealth Commissions that the Society operates. Created by Commonwealth Accords – international treaties formulated in Regular, Special, or Emergency Sessions of the Commonwealth Assembly – the Commissions are bodies created to promote international co-operation and foster diplomatic relations between each of the member states. National membership of each of the Commissions is voluntary.

The CICC is headed by the Commonwealth Commissioner. The office is responsible for the general organisation of the Commissions, allocation of resources and finances, and ensuring that each body is performing the tasks assigned to them by their founding Treaty. In addition, the office has the power to appoint and dismiss heads of each Commission at will during their tenure. The office of the Commissioner is elected in the same way as each of the offices of the Commonwealth Assembly, and elections for the office run concurrently with elections for the Assembly.
